A blogging we will go
Hi Ho the Merry O!
A blogging we will go.
Or at least I will anyway. This blog is a way of sharing my journey with other writers (closet or otherwise
).
I could have gone with traditional publishing but have elected to follow the advice of the agents I met at the Surrey International Writer’s Conference. Because I am dealing with a niche market - a very large market, but still a niche one - they all suggested I go with POD. As I have a definitive release date in mind, I will be going with LuLu for the moment.
I will be posting at least twice a week with discussions on what I have accomplished, bumps in the road and other quirky stuff! As time passes and the project nears completion I will be adding more discussions on other topics - all related to writing of course!! But first, some background on the project under discussion - How the book came to be:
As a life-long fan of Louis L’Amour I was following in my father’s footsteps. Between my dad’s books and the nearest library, I had read over 70 L’Amour novels by the time I was 10. My dad can never remember which titles he has or doesn’t have so he ends up with 3 or 4 copies of the same one. About 5 years ago my parents decided to ’snow-bird’ in Arizona and Mexico - I had Dad drop off all his books so I could go through them and get some kind of organization happening. His three page list became the inspiration for Louis L’Amour: A Collectors Bibliography’.
Although Louis L’Amour passed away in 1988, all 123 of his titles are still in print today. In 2000 his books in print passed the 300 million mark, 12 years after his death! While most people associate Louis L’Amour with Bantam, he had a number of publishers in the early years. After self-publishing his first book, a collection of poetry called “Smoke From This Altar” in the very early 1950’s, he went on to publish with Ace Books, Fawcett Gold Medal and Paperjacks to name a few though from the 1960’s on he published almost completely with Bantam.
However I didn’t stop there. I also included Movie & Television Adaptations, including cast members where I could and then had the stroke of brilliance to add Audio Books.
Four and half months worth of research later. . .
